Jasper man arrested for drugs and firearms

Newton County Sheriff Keith Slape said that officers arrested Kenneth Coy Smith, 28, of Jasper for Possession of a controlled substance, marijuana, with intent to deliver, class c felony;simultaneous possession of drugs and possession of drug paraphernalia class A misdemeanor. Jasper Police Officer Cody Middleton, assisting Newton County at an accident scene, stopped Smith for a traffic violation. Deputy Troy Wenzel and Deputy Charles Moore conducted a cosent to search and found 5.5 ounces of marijuana and a firearm in the vehicle. Smith was charged with the above charges and DWI-drugs no seat belt , refusal to submit to test,and failure to dim headlights. Smith is Boone County Jail with a bond set at $250,000.
